At the behest of the Elder Gods, Gaia herself created the world, the prison orb to hold Goth Azul. Gaia then made the elves, sworn protectors of the Gaia sphere and its great purpose. When the dwarves built the mountain city Aorion, they dug deeply into the ground and built a vast furnace to heat the city and fuel its industry; miles deep and wide, the furnace was stoked by the fiery blood of Gaia flowing in the underworld. If the dwarves' digging went unchecked,Goth Azul, the last of the Elder Gods, would be unleashed and take furious vengeance on the world and the heavens. The high elven druid Cet Arion warned the dwarves that their mountain home would be the undoing of the world itself, that they must bury the city or be destroyed. At last, when the magical barrier surrounding the city was dispelled, the druids left their forest posts, gathered in their great woodland city Nistari, and cast a great spell to destroy the dwarven city. Having left their lands unprotected, the orcs under command of Shek Mogka pillaged and burned the frontier cities of the elves, and set fire to Eldor forest, whose thousand-foot trees had been the most sacred site of the elves since before the First Age. In the Second Age, the elven prophets foretell that the orcs will be annihilated for their crimes against the land.
