Aria-Alia made the Giants, wise and strong, to rule with justice and order over the races of Gaia. And then she made humans, to be ruled over by the Giants. The humans rose up, refusing to be ruled, demanding their freedom. Many left the empire of Light and joined other factions, fighting for other gods, living in distant lands. In the years before the destruction of Aorion, Odus the Wise, ancient king of the giants, sent messengers to all the races, calling for an assembly of the leaders of each faction, to form a single government over the land. The dwarves, elves, and dark elves received the messengers, and each sent emissaries to discuss the terms of such a proposal. The orcs sent the messenger’s head back on a pike. Odus declared that so long as the orcs remained, there would be no peace, and requested an alliance against the orcs, to reduce them and remove their threat to order. The others agreed, and the Chaos Wars began. Although their skill at war was great, the orcs could not stand against the united forces of the other factions, and were defeated at last, broken up into smaller tribes and bound under the rule of Light. Odus assumed the role of emperor, allowing the other races to rule themselves, but under the watchful eye of the Light. But Inakh Weh, the dark elf archmage of Nom, one night teleported himself into the tent where Odus slept, cut his throat, hid the body, and took the ruling scepter. Inakh shapeshifted to resemble Odus, and the next day declared to the followers of Light that Inakh Weh himself was to be made ruler of all the lands and races on Gaia. But Rana, high priestess of Light, discovered Odus’ body and exposed Inakh, who fled with his armies, pursued by Rana and the followers of Light. The dwarves and elves returned to their realms, and the orcs escaped and gathered again amidst the chaos that ensued. The war between Light and Magic raged for the thousand years of the First Age, and on into the Second Age of the Saga…
