At the dawn of the First Age, the dark elves had among them an archmage of awesome power named Inakh Weh, destined to lead them to victory and domination over all the races of Gaia. Knowing that Gaia planned to destroy the great city Aorion, Inakh made a deal with the dwarves, and offered to cast a great magical barrier that would protect the city from Nature’s fury. The dwarves gave Inakh access to the great furnace at the city center, and the barrier was cast. Through the furnace, Inakh communed with the daemons of the underworld, the eternal torturers and jailers of Goth Azul. But the daemons answered only to the power of Gaia, and would not serve Inakh. Inakh visited the druids, and offered to remove the barrier in exchange for the Book of the Underworld, the power to command daemonic beings. In desperation, the druids granted Xethos Nom the Book, but not the key to the prison doors. But Anakh did not remove the barrier. He used the furnace as a gate to bring forth the daemons. Ari-Alia, goddess of light, was told of the treachery of her brother Xethos and the archmage, and Rana, the high priestess of Light, dispelled the barrier. The dark elves swore vengeance on Ari-Alia and her followers for their meddling. The moment the barrier fell, Gaia shook the world, and the mountains collapsed on the dwarves’ beloved city. Inakh escaped with a host of daemons, and commanded them to relentlessly hunt down and destroy the followers of Light.
