• Card Idea Contest •
30 July 2008
To celebrate the release of the new spell card art, we're having a card art contest! Ever felt like you could create a killer unit, if only given the chance? Want to even the playing field by creating a powerful new spell? Now's your chance! This contest allows players to submit their own fan-made card ideas to SAGA's development team, and the best entries will be considered for inclusion in a future expansion! On top of that, the top submissions will be put up for the SAGA player community to vote on, and the three cards that receive the most votes will receive the SAGA t-shirt of their choice. Pixie - Flying - Uncommon - CP 4, Special: Pixie dust - Targeted enemy unit is transported away randomly, up to 50 M. Robo Spider - Machine - RARE - CP 12, AR 23, DR 30, HP 950, DMG 20-50, Range 1, Stamina 100, Speed 10, Morale 110, S/A 8, Res 80, Special: Poison stingers - Robo Spider does additional 50 damage for 60 seconds The card art for the above examples was created by using the SAGA Card Template (which you can download below) and adding images from the talented JLStock over at DeviantArt. Check out JLStock's work here. (Warning - SAGA does not control this site, some content may not be family appropriate) For inspiration on cards, you can download our Card archive, which contains 158 different card images. For help with the stats, try comparing them to the stats given in the manual. Your cards can be as detailed as you like - just make sure you send us the important information! To participate: 1) Download the SAGA Card Template. (~3 Mb) 2) Open the card template in an image editing program (anything that supports layered .psd files), such as Adobe Photoshop (expensive) or The Gimp free!). (Note: The Gimp doesn't support layer folders or layer effects. The font used is Roman Antique, and the effect of the text is achieved by adding a 3 pixel wide 'stroke' or 'border' to the text) 3) Plan out your card - what stats will your troop have? If you make a spell, what will it do? 4) Pick your faction, border (rare or common), add your art and give it a name. 5) Once you've finished the art for your card(s), save them as .jpg files and send them (with their full description) to dmeyer@playsaga.com with any appropriate credits. Rules: - All cards must be family appropriate to be considered - If you use someone else's work, make sure it's ok first! The models that we used above were marked as free to use by the creator, so long as the author receives credit and we link back to their site. Searching for 'public domain' images or 'stock' images may be a good place to start Sites will probably tell you what their policy is on using their images - Please properly credit any images you've used (include this in the e-mail) - Each participant is limited to 10 card submissions (we wouldn't want you to have to decide between 2 or 3 good ideas!) - All Card submissions must have a graphic (doesn't matter if it's very good), and an idea (stats! Though you don't need to include all of them) - All submission must be received by 6 PM, MST on Wednesday, the 6th of August Disclaimer: All idea submissions become the property of SAGA Games, LLC., are subject to modification, and may or may not be used.
