From the journal of Yohan Gearbeard, intrepid explorer:

To my dear brother,

I have just suffered a most happy accident! My team and I were busily exploring the desolate stretch of mountainous desert the orcs call the Blasted Lands (presumably because it's so blasted HOT) when we happened across a colony of what appeared to be miniature dragons.

Old Ramhammer says that they are not true dragons, but possibly close cousins. We've taken to calling the creatures "drakes." They are exceedingly social, and make enough racket to wake the gods, but they might be useful to the war effort if they could be tamed. We have captured several mated pairs, and will be bringing them home with us.

I don't want to brag, but I do believe the drakes are quite partial to me. We've named the largest male Gubbuck, and he and I get along very well. Admittedly, I am a few fingers shorter than when I began this adventure, but Duff Ramhammer is down an entire arm, so I think I am doing comparatively well.

We are somewhat concerned about what the Board of Exploration will say when they learn we have lost a few of the mated drakes, however. As we were loading them onto the ship, they broke through their bonds and simply flew away! Only Tek knows where the beasts have gone... I suppose we'll just try our best to explain to the Board. Tell your little Maria that I am looking forward to seeing her again, and that she is welcome to the first drake egg that hatches, Tek willing.

All my love,

Yohan Gearbeard

The drake is now available in boosters, and is a 3CP neutral flying unit. Yep, that's right! These diminutive airborne monsters will gladly devour the face of your enemy, regardless of your faction. The uncommon Drakes are also known for their tenacity and ferocity when facing units such as daemons, dragons, and elementals; they have +50% AR, +50% DR, and 100% damage against all 'special' units (such as Dragons, Daemons, Chersus, etc). Just be sure and watch your extremities around their mouths; they're excitable little beasties.

Get ready for brand-spakin' new hero cards, new faction-specific troops, and tasty-delicious spells that will make the god favor junkies quiver in elation. The drake marks the completion of the current booster set, and a separate expansion pack is planned for this spring. The expansion pack will contain over 100 cards, including new troops and spells, and even a few familiar allies not previously available in the original booster set (like the armored behemoth).

Can't wait until spring to get a look at the shiny goodness that is the new expansion? Here's a preview of some of the cards:

Spell: Barbican

Barbican

War Spell

Summons a temporary watchtower with moderate attack capabilities, but high defense.

Spell: Bombing Run

Bombing Run

Machine Spell

Casting this spell starts a countdown timer. You'd better move your units out of the blast zone quickly, though, because once the timer has finished, a massive AOE explosion will occur.

Hero: Nemyt

Nemyt

Nature Hero

This elven archer's skill with a bow is legendary. Her leadership skills make her a valuable addition to your ranged armies. Cross her at your own risk.

Hero: Zomgruel

Zomgruel

Undead Hero

It would be wise to stay on the good side of this ferocious Undead hero. One of the largest heroes around, his massive bone sword is an unparalleled source of destruction.

Troop: Dark Elf Rider

Red Mantle Knight

Magic Troop

Riding atop an armored creature known as a Rhyax (a diabolical cavalry unit even larger than the War Rhino), each Red Mantle Knight is clad in platemail armor to protect themselves not only from their enemies, but from their mounts as well.

Troop: Centaur Warden

Centaur Warden

Nature Troop

These four-legged melee warriors are quick movers and staunch allies of the Nature faction.

Boosters are a great way to add to your nation's army, but did you know that certain quests drop cards, as well? If you're willing to roll up your sleeves and step up to the challenge, you too could reap the rewards of sweet, sweet victory. There are currently three quests that will drop a card upon completion:

A Dwarven Informant and A New Breed

(Lv. 15)(122, 19) and (118,7)

A dwarven armorer has asked for you assisstance in disrupting a strange behemoth breeding operation. Help him, and you'll be rewarded handsomely. This quest can be played by all factions.

Cost to Play: 15,000 gold

Reward: An armored behemoth. These plated giants have the highest base DR of any unit in the game.

In the Service of Yeven Nyrr

(Lv. 18)(129, 17)

Saga's new elected official is throwing a party, and has asked that you fulfill the role of bodyguard. This quest can be played by Order factions.

Reward: A growth spell. Units in target radius grow and gain +5% damage for 30 seconds.

In the Service of Gandred Krull

(Lv. 18)(156,35)

Krull has come up with a brilliant plan to counter his rival's growth spell, and requests your help. This quest can be played by Brotherhood factions.

Reward: A shrink spell. Units in target radius (10m) shrink and suffer -5% damage for 30 seconds.

New quests with different card rewards will be added in the future, so keep your eyes peeled. Who knows what you might find?

Before SAGA's first elected official, Yeven Nyrr, was forced to abandon his office due to an unprecedented scandal, he instituted his "Beautification of SAGA" program, which aims to give new life to many faction structures.

"Brightly burning bonfires, soothing fountains, graceful plumes of smoke-- these are small, but pleasant touches all our citizens can enjoy," Nyrr insisted. "Particles, man! We need more particles!"

The program has gained the approval of the majority of the factions, though War has expressed only cautious support.

"The orcs are going to burn down your homes and eat your pets, anyway," a War emissary warned last Friday. "You should probably invest in some sort of life insurance, instead."

  • Hero units added! Only one hero can be deployed at a time on the field.
  • The drake, a neutral flying unit, has been added.
  • Fixed a client crash associated with end of battle in tournaments and PvPs.
  • Experience and God Favor now scale correctly with unit levels.
  • When facing the game camera straight down, the speed of the camera will remain constant instead of becoming extremely slow.
  • Healing spells and effects no longer place the target unit in combat, and thereby does not reduce morale.
  • Guild and general chat turned on by default in battle chat tab for new players.
  • Fix to the Friend and Ignore list. Both should function properly again.
